An engagement session in Curaçao is one of the best things you can do before your wedding. You get beautiful photos, you get comfortable in front of the camera, and you get to know your photographer before the big day. Here's everything I wish couples knew before their shoot.
Why do an engagement session before your wedding?
Most couples feel awkward in front of a camera at first. An engagement session gets that out of the way, so by your wedding day you already know how I work and you'll look relaxed in your photos. It's also a chance to use the photos for save-the-dates, your wedding website, or just for yourselves.
What to wear
Keep it simple and comfortable. Flowing dresses and light fabrics look amazing with the ocean breeze. Soft, neutral, or pastel colors work best on the beach. Avoid big logos, busy patterns, and colors that clash with each other. Coordinate, don't match. Bring a second outfit if you want variety. Barefoot is perfect for the beach, so don't stress about shoes.
How to relax in front of the camera
You don't need to know how to pose. That's my job. I'll give you simple prompts, like walking together, whispering something to each other, or dancing in the water, so the moments feel natural instead of stiff. The best photos happen when you forget the camera is there. Bring the same energy you have when it's just the two of you.
The best time for your shoot
The last hour before sunset is ideal. The light is soft and golden, it's cooler, and the beaches are quieter. Sunrise is also beautiful and almost empty, if you're up for an early start. Avoid midday, when the harsh sun creates squinting and hard shadows.

Before or during your wedding trip?
If you live abroad, book your session a few days before the wedding. You'll be relaxed, and it gives you a chance to see the island together. Some couples also do a session after the wedding for a more laid-back, post-wedding shoot.
